Associate IT Systems Engineer
We are hiring an Associate IT Systems Engineer to take end-to-end ownership of multiple IT systems across different domains (e.g., infrastructure, networking, collaboration/workflow platforms, monitoring, backups). You will be responsible for learning assigned systems quickly, building and integrating reliable deployments, testing changes safely, documenting runbooks, and providing production support as the first technical point of contact for your portfolio. This scope aligns with common Systems Engineer role expectations that include building, testing/validation, troubleshooting, and documentation.
- • Learn & present: rapidly learn assigned systems and present clear internal walkthroughs (architecture, common failure modes, recovery steps).
- • Build & integrate: install/configure systems (VM or container-based), connect networking/storage, and ensure they operate reliably in real environments.
- • Testing & change safety: perform testing/validation for deployments and upgrades; use checklists, confirm rollbacks, and document outcomes.
- • Production support (first focal point): triage incidents, troubleshoot across layers (network ↔ host ↔ container ↔ application), restore service, and escalate with strong notes (impact, evidence, what you tried, next hypothesis).
- • Documentation & runbooks: write and maintain SOPs for installation, upgrades, backup/restore, monitoring checks, and recurring issues.
- • Operational hygiene: implement practical reliability basics (monitoring hooks, log review patterns, capacity checks, backup verification, patching cadence).
- • Collaboration & communication: provide clear written updates to stakeholders during incidents and communicate technical decisions in a structured way.
- • System ownership & assignment: you will always own at least two systems at any time; your portfolio is assigned based on priorities, your strengths, and the skills you want to develop (and may be adjusted as our roadmap changes); you are expected to become the “go-to” person for your assigned systems, escalating only when needed.
- • 2+ years in hands-on IT support / systems administration / infrastructure support (or equivalent practical experience).
- • Practical exposure to production troubleshooting (not just lab setups).
- • Experience maintaining at least two different system types (e.g., a server/platform plus a networking/monitoring/backup component).
- • Strong fundamentals in Linux (services, logs, permissions, process/network basics).
- • Working knowledge of Docker and Docker Compose, including troubleshooting and safe upgrades.
- • Ability to test changes and validate outcomes (basic release discipline).
- • Strong written communication (runbooks, incident notes, clear escalation summaries).
- • Self-learning mindset: can learn an unfamiliar system, summarize it accurately, and operate it safely.
- • Experience with virtualization and/or storage concepts (hypervisors, mounts/shares, backup/restore).
- • Experience with monitoring/alerting tools and operational dashboards.
- • Reverse proxy + TLS fundamentals (certificate lifecycle, basic routing).
- • Scripting/automation basics (Bash/Python) to reduce repetitive work.
- • MSP or multi-client environment experience.
- • Remote collaboration using chat, tickets, and documentation tools.
- • Some work may occur outside normal hours for planned maintenance or urgent incidents (expectations clarified before starting).
- • Access to customer environments requires professionalism, confidentiality, and careful change control.
